Yoga Nidra, originating from India, is a technique that brings a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the "going-to-sleep" stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed and the practitioner becomes increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness is different from meditation in which concentration is required. In this practice the practitioner remains in a state of light awareness with four senses withdrawn, and only the hearing still connects to the instructions.
The method is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. Many cultures have used very similar techniques for the same purpose of deep relaxation and healing. At Amaya we open the practice with some gentle yin yoga postures to prepare the body and end the practice with healing ayurvedic head massage and vibrational tuning forks.
The practice has been found to reduce stress, tension and anxiety, connect to yourself more deeply, and bring more joy into your life.
